Discussion About Almora in Purans
Almora is another beautiful district
of Uttarakhand, which has a population of around 36,000. And, it’s less than
Nainital. Almora is also discussed in the Mahabharata
where Devi Kaushika slaughtered the Shumbh & Nishumbh. Almora is located
on Mansakand mountain which is
described in Hinduism holy books.

Founder & Founding Date of Almora
Firstly, A Chinese traveler reached
there, who described this place to people. In the Era of 600 century, the Katyuri
dynasty ruled over the Almora. Then, in the 16th Century or we can
say in the mid of 1500 century, Chand Emperor ruled over there. Exactly founded
in 1568 by Kalyan Chand. They moved their capital from Champavat to Almora.
And, that time Almora was known as Alamnagar (Rajpur).
Other Dynasties Came in Almora
In the mid of 1774, Ali Mohammad Khan
Rohilla defeated the Chand Emperor and started their rule. But, the Chand
dynasty gives them Almora on just 3 Lakh bucks due to living difficulties in a hilly
area. In 1790, the Gorkha Emperor started their rule on Almora. Nowadays,
people of Nepal live here and they are the generations of the Gorkha dynasty.
They also ruled on Almora for around 25 years.
Some Development by the British Government Before 1947
In 1815, Britshians came there and at that time they didn’t know about Nainital because Nainital was found in the year of 1840. They developed Almora with several facilities such are schools
& management offices, houses, etc.
Almora Became District After 1947
In 1947, Almora was the part of Pithoragarh
which means that Almora was not the district at that time. In 1960, It became
the part of Bageshwar which means that Almora was drawn from Pithoragarh. Then,
finally, in 1997, Almora became the district.

Some Tourist Places in and Nearby Almora
There is a lot of tourist places where
you can explore the mystic Uttarakhand such as: From Zero Point you can see
Kedarnath Shivling, Trishul Parvat, Nanda Devi. You can also go to Jageshwar
Dham which is also one of the most visited Jyotirlinga out of main 12
Jyotirlingas. Kasar Devi temple which is just 5 km away from there. Katarmal
Sun temple is 800 years’ oldest temple in this area. Chitai Temple, Binsar
Mahadev. From Binsar Mahadev Temple, you can also see Chauthan Valley view and
also can see Chaukhamba’s view. There are also some caves near Binsar Mahadev.
Dunagiri, Dwarahat (a Nagar panchayat
in Almora), Ranikhet, and Lal Market. For homestay or own home in the hills, follow Indus Valley Mukteshwar.
Education System in Almora
Almora’s has also the strongest
education system in the history of Kumaun. SSJ Campus University is one of the most
popular in this area. There are also some other schools, universities, and
colleges.

Easy Transport Services
Transport facility is also good in
Almora. The nearest Railway station is Kathgodam which connects to Almora. And,
also has some bus stands such are: KMOU Mall Raod, Dharanaula, ISBT Lower Mall
Road. Airport service is started from Pantnagar which serves the entire Kumaon
region. And, the vehicle registration number starts from UK-01.

Some Notable Personalities Had Touched to Almora
A lot of notable faces also visited the Almora. Some had their own property or
some have visited many times there. Rabindranath Tagore spent his some time
there and also bought a house near Ramgarh. Swami Vivekananda Ji also visited
there during his Himalayan sojourns. India’s first prime minister Pt. Nehru was
in the Jail of Almora during the freedom fighting. The famous poet Sumitranandand
Pant was born in Bageshwar’s village Kausani. Former VC of ISRO Nilambar Pant
was also born in Almora. Former HRD Minister of India Murli Manohar Joshi was
also born in the region of Almora.
